20-year Water Reclamation Pilot Plant To Open in S Dade

Miami-Dade County is unveiling a water reclamation pilot plant in South Dade. It will test several technologies for treating the wastewater beofre sending it back underground to recharge the groundwater levels. The processes being tested are the same processes that will be used to treat the wastewater: micro-filtration, followed by reverse osmosis, and then disinfection by ultraviolet light. The result should be water that is near-distilled quality. For more info on this project visit WASD's website at www.miamidade.gov/wasd/wup.asp

Comment

Federal guidelines in the past have been 5 parts per billion being acceptable, but recently they have cut that purity requirements in half, and even more purity is required now. If memory serves me it seems I remmeber that the federal guidelines for drinking water was zero parts per billion. The County has several water conservation projects, including lowflow shower heads, rebates for lowflow toilets, and submeter installations. You can call 305-665-7477, or go to www.miamidade.gov/wasd/save_submeter.asp
