CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Power company Duke Energy said Thursday that wind power projects in Wyoming and Pennsylvania are now up and running.
Duke's 70-megawatt project about 95 miles east of Pittsburgh is producing electricity for Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy. It is Duke's first wind farm in the eastern U.S.
Duke also has a 42-megawatt project now running in Cheyenne, Wyo. The electricity is being sold to Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power.
Duke shares were down 7 cents to $15.67 in trading Thursday morning. The shares have traded between $11.72 and $18 over the past year.
Comment
Duke has become a Green power company recently and is competing with FPL in various markets. It will be interesting to see how these projects turn out - whether they put out what they are intending to provide, in terms of power, and what the costs will be.
